It’s the fact that progression is slow that people don’t view Vesperia more negatively than the general consensus offers.

Maybe Falcom is playing with the idea of using Nintendo as the game’s localizer and publishing company worldwide… Then, I don’t think a timed exclusive would be possible, it would be a full exclusive and it’s quite possible that the sales numbers on the Switch 1/2 alone would be balanced by the reduced localization and publishing costs. It also makes sense when you think they practically announced this a simultaneous worldwide release. They’ve never used just 1 publisher before, so they’ve never been able to offer anything remotely close to a simultaneous release, globally. But if Nintendo was publishing it, it would definitely be possible, and the fact that it’s a Remake makes its potential market value much easier for a company like Nintendo to forecast sales expectations vs potential localization and publication expenses. It also may help them get more “bang for their buck” with voice acted lines, quite honestly. If Nintendo is negotiating rates with actors, they’re negotiating for several games at once offering thousands of hours of paid work. It will cost them a lot less to have an actor for 10-20 hours if Nintendo is striking the deal than if NISAmerica was. If Falcon still hasn’t made up its mind on a publisher, it would also potentially help explain why the game got announced in a Reel instead of getting its own clip, like in Japan-Falcom doesn’t a publisher there, but they do here, and it’s a good way to keep carrot dangling in front of them considering how much online discourse this shit sparked. Normally Nintendo wouldn’t offer global support for a Falcom title for a niche fan base, but for a remake of the first game-they just might test the waters to see where this goes. They’re a Japanese company at their core, so they’ve known and appreciated Falcom for a long time, but they’ll need more concrete evidence showing that the rest of the world can appreciate them as well.

Thanks for the video. My understanding was that these titles all enjoy success in Japan. It used to be that if they were successful enough there, they would be released here, but improvements in translation services have really opened up the markets.

3:00 Trails is never Borring, but I have sympathy for those who got the commitment to play this for having the fatigue kick in mid current finish line. Just know, you don't have to play 11+ games in one stretch. Sometimes a break and playing something else is a solution to make it through to the end.

Trails is a remarkable one for me. Falcom is a very small company, yet they've stayed in business for 40 years making highly respected RPGs, if not the most successful/high tech in the modern day. To make a series with SUCH high commitment is impressive. Only other similar high commitment series I can think of are Kingdom Hearts and Yakuza, but KH is sold to a much wider market by Disney elements, and Yakuza has become somewhat infamous.

ps. atelier games were time/resorce management games a la Princess Maker. Over time they transformed into run of the mill jrpgs where you have to save the world etc etc... I personally would encourage all of u to play Rorona for example where, among other things, the politically incorrect disgaea-ish sense of humour is still rampant - the lesbian alchemist teacher that hits on all girls including the dead one is golden! If u want a slightly "darker" or maybe better "emotional" story, Aysha. The most recent Atelier games became popular because they are mediocre standard JRPGs with pretty graphics. They are ok but are they worth your time when u have a 1k other better JRPGs to play?
